Important Instructions For Cerebral Palsy Children & Their Family Member:

Corona Virus has caused lots of panic and problems worldwide. It affects all age groups but mostly the elderly are severely affected. Elderly age group populations develop many medical complications and even the percentage of death is higher in this age. Till now worldwide, we don’t have any reports of severe implications in children but still, we are in a very early phase to decide future implications in children. Whatever reports are available they show that if children are affected they have mild to moderate affection. But our cerebral palsy children are immuno-compromised. Chest muscle in a few severely affected children does not work properly & they are also weak and will not be able to exhale out a cough.  So these groups of children may have some implications by corona infection. Their caregiver including every family member is also susceptible to get corona infection according to their immune status and associated disease like diabetes and hypertension. We should take every precaution to prevent corona infection in children & ourselves.

Cerebral Palsy Advice & Precautionary Measures:

  • Therapy and treatment should not be stopped for them. If you are visiting the therapy center then see that it is safer or not. If safe then look that there should not be too much rush at the center. Don’t talk too much at a rehab center. Use facemask for the child during the therapy sessions.  Continue prescribed therapy at home. If your child has a cough, cold, fever respiratory infection, contact a medical practitioner in your area. Follow government instruction for the specified locality.
  • You should stock of medicine for yourself and the child in advance.
  • The children should be given good quality nutritious food like fresh seasonal fruits like oranges, vegetables, daal, etc and avoid dairy products like ice-creams, pastry & meats.
  • Wash your and your child’s hands frequently with soap and water. Use sanitizer frequently and ask your therapist to do the same.
  • Ask you relative, friends to avoid visit your house. If the child is small and severely affected with CP then take extra precautions like restricted touch and keep them in the well-sanitized room and away from any family member with sneezing, cold, cough and fever till recovered.
  • Since some of them have week chest muscles and are immune-compromised consider doing breathing exercises like Pranayam, breathing and yoga exercises.
